Learn How to Build a Deer / Elk Ground Blind

Once you start scouting stock tanks in Arizona, you will be able to tell which ones the other hunters think are good by noting the number of ground blinds that are built in the area.

Before building a blind, sit off the tank a 100 yards and see what comes into to drink during the summer before the season starts.

If you see sufficient animals to merit the work, look for a good spot to build a blind. You might find a clump of trees, a depression in the earth or the backside of the earth berm that serves as the dam.

Next build a bird's nest structure with fallen trees. Make the walls high enough that the animals will not see any movement while you are sitting inside. Make it large enough to put in a comfortable seat, stump or rock to sit on.

The other alternative is to buy a ground blind tent from a hunting store. I would only recommend that you build or put up a ground blind tent several weeks before the season starts so that the animals get used to it.

Some hunters will even put in a fake person so that the animals get used to seeing a human form sitting inside the structure.
