Scouting Ridge End Points
on Topographic Hunting Maps

Points are found at the ends of ridges where they drop down to valleys or farm fields below. Elk and deer often use these points as bedding areas. In addition, they also provide wildlife with the best terrain available to avoid hunters. Slipping from point to point - point hopping - allows mature bucks and bulls the opportunity to completely avoid hunters, throwing the completely off track.

Points are the most difficult to terrain to learn when and how to hunt properly.

Typically a game trail will follow parallel to the ridge then drop down across the point as it drop down into a valley or field.
